About the Role

The Knowledge Management Lawyer (“KM Lawyer”) will be responsible for managing the creation, organization, and delivery of knowledge assets for the Data and Technology Transactions (“DTT”) Group. The KM Lawyer will support the delivery of a broad portfolio of knowledge services including the collation and organization of precedent, the provision of regular current awareness (monitoring of legal and regulatory developments), the coordination and delivery of training and the handling of legal research and enquiries.

 

Latham & Watkins has a well-established Knowledge Management team with defined career progression routes which recognize the experience our colleagues bring to their role. Whilst our expectation is that candidates will have five years or more practicing experience, we are open to candidates at all levels, including those with very significant experience in this field.

 

This role will be located in any of our US offices. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining a wide variety of standard form IP and commercial agreements, including IP license agreements, website terms of service and privacy policies, development agreements, supply agreements, master service agreements, IP due diligence request lists, and IP representations and warranties in M&A agreements
  • Managing the DTT group training program including setting the curriculum and assisting with the preparation of training materials  
  • Monitoring current legal developments for the practice and key industries; informing attorneys of important events through emails, bulletins, training sessions or other appropriate means; preparing communications and tailored thought leadership materials for clients regarding these developments (including in pitches, newsletters, client presentations)
  • Utilizing attorneys within DTT to support the delivery of the KM effort, coordinating their involvement, seeking partner feedback, and review
  • Identifying, collecting and organizing work product for the practice group in the relevant knowledge management database
  • Selecting preferred documents for each transaction and identifying precedents for future use; adding annotations and other ‘value-add’ commentary to the documents where appropriate

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess extensive knowledge of legal documents and legal practice in intellectual property, technology transactions, and data privacy
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Exhibit meticulous attention to detail

And have:

  • A J.D., a Bachelor of Laws, or an equivalent
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant law firm experience as a practicing attorney in intellectual property, technology transactions, and data privacy
