About the Role

The Information Governance (“IG”) Retention & Disposition Senior Analyst is an integral part of Latham’s Global Information Governance team. This role will be responsible for providing assistance to staff and attorneys across the firm with retention and disposition schedules, reviews, and dispositions, while developing plans, organizing files and workflow, and assuming responsibility for the completion of major projects. This role will be located in our Washington, D.C. office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

 

  • Coordinating support to practice office IG Operations departments and coordinating all major functions of the Retention and Disposition team with minimal supervision
  • Developing, planning, and organizing files and workflows, and assuming responsibility for the completion of major projects 
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, ensuring completion of the disposition process, responding to questions, and providing guidance and training as needed
  • Exercising judgment in ensuring that firm policies and procedures are followed, and understanding how ethical and legal obligations impact the storage, organization, and transfer of data in a global environment
  • Advising attorneys, legal professionals, and staff about information management best practices, data privacy and security issues, and other risk management issues
  • Communicating effectively with the attorneys, firm leadership, and other teams outside of IG that play a role in the disposition process
  • Working with various Technology & Information Services Department colleagues to obtain reports, identify relevant data, and delete designated content as part of the retention process
  • Developing, enhancing, updating, and maintaining all methods of tracking administrative and client retention projects
  • Maintaining statics, tracking the status of retention projects, and preparing periodic reports for the IG team
  • Providing training and mentoring regarding retention and disposition procedures and functions for users and other IG staff
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

 

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of information governance, data security and privacy principles, best practices, and procedures
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Display the ability to develop a thorough knowledge of the physical and electronic resources of the department and firm

 

And have:

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; a minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ relevant records and information management experience, preferably at a law firm
  • Experience in other law firm positions having significant document organizational responsibilities; this may be considered in lieu of directly related Information Governance or Records experience
