About Latham & Watkins

Latham & Watkins is a global law firm consistently ranked among the top firms in the world. The success of our firm is largely determined by our commitment to hire and develop the very best and brightest, creating a team that provides our clients with the highest quality of work and service. We are driven by our core values: respect, innovation, and collaboration.

About the Role

The Knowledge Management (KM) Lawyer will be responsible for managing the creation, organization, and delivery of knowledge assets for the US Company M&A practice (the “Practice”), helping attorneys to work at the highest level. The KM Lawyer will support the delivery of a broad portfolio of knowledge services for the Practice, including the monitoring of legal, market, and regulatory developments, the preparation of tailored thought leadership pieces for clients, the creation of standard forms, guidance notes and training materials, and the collation and organization of precedent.   This role will, ideally, be located in our New York, Chicago, or Washington, D.C. offices. However, we are also open to considering all US office locations.  Please also note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Latham & Watkins has a well-established Knowledge Management team with defined career progression routes which recognize the experience our colleagues bring to their role. Whilst our expectation is that candidates will have five years or more practicing experience, we are open to candidates at all levels, including those with very significant experience in this field.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and maintaining standard forms and templates and other knowledge resources
  • Identifying, collecting, and organizing precedent and other work product for the Practice in the relevant knowledge management databases
  • Monitoring current legal, regulatory, and market developments for the Practice, and informing attorneys and clients of these through emails, bulletins, training, or other appropriate means
  • Supporting the team’s training program and providing substantive training to the team’s associates, as well as more general training on the knowledge management databases, and KM resources generally
  • Coordinating and monitoring projects under the firm’s KM Initiative, working with the attorneys to bring these to fruition, and ensuring they meet the Practice’s strategic objectives
  • Participating in external forums with members of the wider KM community and external service providers in order to keep abreast of industry developments
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess extensive knowledge of legal documents in M&A
  • Exhibit outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Display meticulous attention to detail

And have:

  • A J.D. or equivalent
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant post-qualification experience as a practicing lawyer in a leading law firm, focused on M&A

Benefits & Additional Information

Successful candidates will not only be provided with an outstanding career opportunity and welcoming environment, but will also be provided with a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance. Eligible employees can participate in Latham’s comprehensive benefit program which includes:

  • Healthcare, life and disability insurance
  • A generous 401k plan
  • At least 11 paid holidays per year, and a PTO program that accrues 23 days during the first year of employment and grows with tenure
