About the Role

The Senior Paralegal is an integral part of Latham’s Legal Professional and Paralegal team. This role will be responsible for performing legal tasks, working on legal projects, and providing various support functions to supervisors, while reviewing title insurance commitments and underlying documents, resolving title issues, and finalizing title policies. This role will be located in our Chicago office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing surveys, zoning reports, lease-related documents, and other due diligence items, including resolving issues, as well as coordinating with diligence service providers
  • Preparing and maintaining transaction checklists
  • Preparing and/or drafting closing documents, forms, letters, and other correspondence, and legal documents under the supervision of attorneys and maintaining closing files
  • Providing support to attorneys for closings (and attending closings, if required)
  • Creating and maintaining calendars for closings or transactions, and distributing them to supervisors and other team members
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess knowledge of basic corporate structures and UCC matters
  • Display knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS Office Suite (especially Excel), and other programs necessary to complete thorough analyses and reports
  • Exhibit well-developed and professional interpersonal skills

 

And have:

  • A bachelor's degree (and signed declaration if located in a California office), or a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related law firm experience as a Real Estate Paralegal
  • Experience in title, survey, zoning, and other related diligence review
  • Experience assisting on commercial, multi-state real estate transactions required from origination to finalization of post-closing matters
