About the Role

The Paralegal is an integral part of Latham’s Legal Professional and Paralegal team. This role will be responsible for performing legal tasks and providing various administrative support to attorneys and other supervising paralegals, while preparing basic legal documents, retrieving documents from internal or public sources and maintaining the integrity of transactional files. This role will be located in our New York office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Performing trademark, patent, copyright and domain name due diligence research using online and commercial databases, and preparing reports detailing results
  • Preparing and filing security agreements and releases with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and the United States Copyright Office (USCO)
  • Advising and providing guidance to Finance and M&A deal teams on IP related issues, including the review and analysis of IP schedules on Finance and M&A deal documents, providing comments as necessary
  • Preparing assignments of trademark registrations and applications, and filing them with PTO Assignment Branch and USCO
  • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess proficient knowledge of applications typically used in a legal office environment, such as internet searching skills
  • Exhibit knowledge of MS Office applications, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • Possess ability to conduct database research (e.g., searches on databases such as Corsearch, DerwentInnovation, SAEGIS, the USPTO, and the USCO preferably)

And have:

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably
  • A signed declaration if located in a California office, or paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program, preferably
  • A Minimum of (1) year of related law firm experience, preferably as a paralegal, is required
