About the Role

The Business Development Manager II – Complex Commercial Litigation is an integral part of Latham’s Business Development (BD) team. This role will be responsible for driving and supporting the strategic business development objectives of the Complex Commercial Litigation practice, aiming to strengthen our internal and external brand and ultimately win new business, while serving as the lead BD resource to Practice Group Chairs (PGCs) regarding business development activities, and collaborating with them to understand market position, develop strategic plans, and drive efforts to maintain and grow the practice's position. This role will be located in our New York Office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with firm resources to prepare routine analyses and reporting of practice and industry competition, market trends, internal financial information, and business opportunities, while planning and executing client targeting and internal cross-selling programs
  • Partnering with the global Public Relations (PR) team to ensure coverage of successful matters is publicized internally and externally in accordance with the firm’s public relations policy, and identifying internal communication opportunities to further promote the practice locally and regionally
  • Staying abreast of developments and trends in relevant areas and remaining informed of all major new clients and matters, while developing in-depth knowledge of, and acting as a firm resource regarding, lawyer expertise, practice group expertise, client base, firm experience, industry/trade group organizations, legal, industry, and business trends, practice-specific business development materials, and media
  • Collaborating with the Global New Business team, Industry Group Leads, and Market BD teams to draft and maintain practice and industry-specific content and rankings for the proposal management system, while ensuring that all necessary business development materials exist and are maintained (liaising with partners, associates, and business development professional staff as appropriate)
  • Overseeing the development of practice-specific global directory and award submissions and assisting with relevant regional submissions, while identifying local and regional opportunities for thought leadership, branding opportunities, and other strategic BD initiatives aligned with the overall global strategy
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains 

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Demonstrate a strong ability to positively and proactively influence others, including multiple stakeholders
  • Exhibit knowledge of fundamental business development and sales principles in professional services or similar environments, including client targeting, and client account management.
  • Exhibit well-developed analytical and research skills

And have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of business development experience
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of cumulative experience
