About the Role

The Research Services Manager is an integral part of Latham’s Research Services team. This role will be responsible for managing electronic and print subscription services, including evaluating and purchasing new content, overseeing renewals of existing subscriptions, and ensuring compliance with terms of service and firm policies, while supervising and developing staff by providing regular feedback, conducting formal performance evaluations, and making recommendations on hiring, coaching, and development in partnership with department leadership and Human Capital & Talent. This role will be located in either our Chicago or Washington, DC office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence. 

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Other key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the daytoday operation of the department’s content procurement process, including purchasing new electronic and print content, renewing existing contracts, and liaising with external vendors to ensure services meet expectations and comply with firm policies
  • Managing electronic and print contract compliance by monitoring usage, setting up business review meetings, and responding to contractual obligations and licensing questions
  • Liaising with the firm’s internal Contract Review, Privacy, Security, and Global Procurement teams to review and approve contract terms, conditions, and pricing
  • Supervising and authorizing invoice payments, and reviewing and correcting vendor accounts
  • Liaising with Research Services Managers, attorneys, and other business services teams to purchase new content, review existing research resources, and assist with promoting awareness of electronic and print resources
  • Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive, confidential, privileged, financial, and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • Possess superior knowledge of legal and nonlegal electronic and print resources
  • Exhibit superior negotiation and contract management skills
  • Demonstrate superior communication skills

And have:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • A master’s degree or Juris Doctor (J.D.), preferably
  • A minimum of six (6) years of relevant professional experience
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of cumulative experience
